Findley's military service detailed
By By Lydia Grimes-Forgotten Trails
I have been waiting for some information from Lisa Franklin Donica to share with you about Magilbry Findley. She has found records that clarify the military service of Magilbry in the War of 1812.
It has long been believed that Magilbry fought with Andrew Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans. This belief has become part of any history written about Magilbry and Donica has now found proof that it is incorrect.
Yes, Magilbry Findley did indeed serve in the War of 1812 and has been so recognized for his service in Covington County. What has now become clear is that he was not with Jackson in Louisiana. Donica's words tell the story best. This narrative was also in "The Andalusia Star News" in one of Curtis Thomason's columns.
