Mr. Monroe Carmichael Sr., 83, died July 15, 2005. He was a native of Baldwin County and a resident of Escambia County, Ala. He was a member of First Saint Siloam Baptist Church and retired from Keego Clay Company in Keego. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Mae Davis Carmichael; four children, Luverne L. Carmichael, Monroe Carmichael Jr., James E. Carmichael and Willie Carmichael; two brothers, Dirve Lee and Edward Carmichael; three sisters, Lillie Hawthorne, Willie Mae Davis and Octavia Carmichael and his stepmother, Mattie Carmichael.
He is survived by four daughters, Lauretta Carmichael of New York, Willie Carmichael of Loxley, Lillie Payne of Leavenworth, Kan., and Willa Floyd of Brewton; six sons, Dennis Carmichael, Robert Carmichael, Frank Carmichael and Raymond Carmichael, all of Brewton, John Carmichael of Los Angeles, Calif., and Harry Carmichael of Newport News, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Truelean Carmichael of Pensacola, Fla., and Mary Carmichael of Loxley; two brothers, Arlee (Evelyn) Carmichael of Daphne and Henry Carmichael (Denise) Carmichael of Chicago, Ill., one sister, Eliza Hurst of Houston, Texas; 33 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at First Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. H.B. King officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
