Incumbent Terry Clark defeated Norman Rabren in the runoff election for the title of East Brewton councilman by 71 votes. Clark will begin his second term in October.
The East Brewton City Council took a major step toward revitalizing the area adjacent to Murder Creek at their meeting Monday. The next stage of the plan will pave the way for the city to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to phase a flood-plagued business zone into a recreational area.
Brewton's 1980 population cont is 6,235, a 512-person decrease since 1970.
John H. Jones assumed the position of manager of the Brewton Kmart store. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., he has been with the Kmart chain for 12 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mantel recently celebrated their 50th anniversary at their home on Forrest Avenue with a party thrown by Mrs. Mantel's three sisters.
