U.S. Air Force Major (Ret.) Alex L. McGowin, 70, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at a Montgomery hospital. He was a resident of Teddy. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and flew combat missions in Vietnam. He was a 1956 graduate of Auburn University and in the military for 21 years. He was an instructor at Reid State Technical College, served on the State Board of Heating and Air Conditioning and a member of the Board of Directors of Southern Pine Electric Cooperative. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Ann McGowin.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Stoutamire McGowin of Teddy; a son, Timothy Patrick (Julie Ward) McGowin of Auburn; a daughter, Karen (Major Matthew) Roberson of Niceville, Fla.; two grandsons, Jack Edward McGowin and Shawn Patrick McGowin and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at Brooklyn Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Williams officiating. Burial followed at the McGowin Cemetery on Hwy. 29, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
