A trust fund has been set up at Escambia County Bank in Flomaton for April Danielle Brantley, 16, who was injured in an accident last week.
Brantley, daughter of Derek and Teresa Brantley of the McCall community, was injured in an accident last Saturday, Aug. 6, near her home.
According to Sheriff Grover Smith, a sheriff's deputy was attempting to pull Brantley's vehicle over for a routine traffic stop when her Mazda car swerved off the edge of the road, tipped over and struck a tree.
Brantley suffered a back injury and was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was later transferred to UAB Children's Hospital in Birmingham on Tuesday and was scheduled for surgery on Thursday, but due to a spike in her temperature, the surgery was delayed.
According to her aunt, Teresa Rolin, Brantley is listed in serious, but guarded condition. It will take some time but the doctors are hopeful for a complete recovery.
"She has movement in her hands and will squeeze your hand when you ask her a question," Rolin said. "She can also move her toes, so we are very hopeful."
