Mr. Roger Vincent Salter Sr., 81, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at a Jay hospital. He had been a resident of the Flomaton area since 1956, coming from Castleberry. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the infantry in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He retired from Kelley Brothers Contractors of Flomaton and was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Montrie E. Salter, 10 siblings and one grandchild.
He is survived by two sons, Roger V. Salter and Larry E. Salter, both of Flomaton; two daughters, Beverly S. Simpson of Flomaton and Pamela S. Meiners of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchilden.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at Little Escambia Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Patterson, the Rev. Jeff Howard and the Rev. Ralph Morgan officiating. Burial followed at Little Escambia Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were John V. Mitchell, Joseph E. Mitchell, James Clay Simmons, Travis Salter, Richard Cody Salter and Jacob M. Bonds. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons and the Men's III Sunday school class at Little Escambia Baptist Church and Robert Tolbert.
