After several months and no action on the tobacco-free ordinance, Councilman Cary Barton said Tuesday evening that his committee met last week and would have a final outline of the tobacco-free ordinance for the city of Brewton.
Barton, along with committee members Ann Marie Sasser and Frank Cotton met Friday and discussed the proposed smoking ban ordinance that was discussed during a council meeting in late-February.
The tobacco-free ordinance discussed several months ago would restrict people from smoking in working establishments such as work sites, public facilities, restaurants, etc. Barton said the committee met and obtained several ideas from similar ordinances in other municipalities. While the committee plans to review the other ordinances, Barton said they would cater the ordinance to the city of Brewton.
The proposed date would be the second meeting in September.
