Dr. Robert Harold Summerville, 58, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005. He was a native of Brewton. He received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Alabama. He went on to complete his master's and educational doctorate at the University of Alabama. He taught at the college, high school and junior high levels. He was later employed as a Social Studies Specialist for the Alabama State Department of Education. After retiring from public education, he became a partner and consultant at Teacher Technology System. He was an elder and Sunday school teacher for junior high students at First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his father, R.H. Summerville.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Bonds Summerville of Selma; his son, Robert Tutwiler Summerville of Selma; his mother, Alice Harold Summerville of Brewton; two sisters, Kaye (Jimmy) Olson of Poplarville, Miss., and Neita (Mick) Blackledge of Destin, Fla.; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held Monday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ronald E. Stone officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
