Mr. Willie Matthews, 85, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at his residence. He was a native of Coy, Ala., and a resident of Atmore for many years. He was a member of Elizabeth Holiness Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was retired from Monsanto in Pensacola as a dietician. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Mae Matthews.
He is survived by five daughters, Willie Lee Matthews-Williams of Mobile, Cora Matthews, Charlotte Matthews and Karen (Marion) Orange, all of Atmore, and Mary (Marcell) Roberson of Sierra Vista, Fla.; three sons, Robert Matthews of Mobile, Clarence (Lucille) Matthews of Atmore, and Gary (Ciara) Matthews of Brewton; 33 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Atmore with the Rev. Dan Abner officiating. Burial followed at Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home directing.
