Scholarship fund set up for Miller grads
A scholarship fund has been established for Miller graduates under the auspices of the Greater Brewton Foundation.
It will be some time before the fund has enough money in it to distribute the scholarships to graduating seniors, but we hope that all alumni groups will make a contribution. Some classes have made contributions in memory of deceased classmates.
Please carefully consider that your gift will help a graduate from Miller further his or her education. You might make a donation just because you want to, or you could make it in honor of a favorite teacher, or perhaps you would just like to give something back to a little high school that still strives for excellence.
This year we would like for each alumnus to give a $10 donation. We humbly ask for you help, and we hope that you will give as much as you possibly can. No contribution is too small or too large.
Last year, the class of 1994 made a $1,000 contribution. This has been the largest contribution we have received, and I challenge each returning class to meet or exceed this amount. At the rate we are collecting funds now, it will take us at least 20 years to collect enough money to begin giving scholarships.
We hope that some kind and generous alumnus will help us out; we also hope that giving to the fund will become an annual event every Homecoming for all alumni, whether it is their Homecoming reunion year or not. Please remember us and the scholarship fund every Homecoming.
To encourage contributions, individuals who give $100 – $499 will have their names listed on a "Sponsors" plaque; individuals who give $500 – $999 will have their names listed on a "Patrons" plaque, and individuals who contribute $1,000 or more will have their names listed on a "Benefactors" plaque. These plaques will be displayed in a prominent location for everyone to see.
Please pay by check and make your check payable to the Greater Brewton Foundation and specify for TRMHS Scholarship Fund. All cash donations must receive a written receipt if you turn it in at the school. You may give your checks to me or turn them in to the office. You may mail your check to me (Charles A. Rushing, T.R. Miller High school, 1835 Douglas Ave., Brewton, Ala. 36426). Your contribution is tax deductible.
I look forward to seeing you on Sept. 30. If I can be of further assistance you may call the Superintendent's office (867-8400) or call the high school (867-8430). My mailing address is 605 Garret St., Brewton
Sincerely,
Charles A. Rushing
