Get ready to get fit and have fun doing so. The Brewton YMCA and Smurfit-Stone are holding its second annual 5K run/walk and one-mile run fun/walk in October.
The one-mile fun run/walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 at the Brewton YMCA. Family and friends are urged to participate in honor of health and wellness. The event will also be assisted by Run For Your Life, Inc.
Peterman said the course will be a flat course throughout the community of Brewton. It will be well-marked with orange cones and arrows, and participants will be able to re-hydrate with a water station located at the mid-point.
Final instructions will be issued in the parking lot of the Brewton YMCA. The event is based on an "honor system," meaning walkers must walk the entire race.
Awards will be handed out to the overall male and female finishers of the 5K run/walk, and awards will be given to the top three males and females in each age group. The one-mile fun run/walk will begin 15 minutes after the runners and walkers have completed the 5K event, and each participant will receive a ribbon for the one-mile event.
Following the race, refreshments will be available and sponsors will be giving door prizes away.
Registration began Oct. 1 and lasts until the day of the race on Oct. 29, and there is an entry fee.
