Miss America, Miss Alabama to present concert Thursday

Roll out the red carpet! Brewton will host both Miss America and Miss Alabama this week.
The Greater Brewton Area Council on the Arts, in cooperation with the Curtis Finlay Foundation, will present Miss America, Deidre Downs of Birmingham, and Miss Alabama, Alexa Jones of Andalusia, in a free concert Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m. in Woodfin Patterson Auditorium on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College.
They will be joined by Julia McNeese, the overall talent winner in the 2005 and a Top 10 finalist in the Miss Alabama contest, and Alicia Lewis, who also was Top 10 finalist in the Miss Alabama contest. Former Miss Alabama and Brewton native Catherine Crosby will emcee the event.
During the program, Miss America will discuss her platform, curing childhood cancer, will do a question and answer session with area school children, and will sing &#8221St. Louis Blues.“
Miss Alabama will discuss her platform, enhancing arts education, and perform a lyrical dance. Miss McNeese will play the piano and Miss Lewis will perform classical ballet.
Students from Pollard-McCall school will welcome Miss Downs with a rendition of &#8221God Bless America.“
Miss America, who will arrive Wednesday afternoon, also will visit Neal High School, Pollard-McCall School and T.R. Miller High School Thursday morning.
