During a routine patrol, a Brewton police officer discovered a local grocery store had been broken into over the weekend.
On Sunday, an officer called the department and asked for additional officers to meet him at Pic N Sav, located at 440 Douglas Ave. The officers arrived at the scene and found the front glass door had been shattered by an unknown object.
Officers proceeded to contact the supervisor and owner. As the two men arrived, they found inside the store the cigarette case was damaged and “numerous cartons of cigarettes” were taken from the case. McGougin said it appears that nothing else had been taken.
Upon reviewing the store surveillance tape, it appeared the suspect was wearing white shoes and what looked to be black jeans and a long shirt. The camera did not capture the face of the suspect.
According to a police report, Officer Brand and Sgt. Suarez took pictures of the scene and dusted for prints. The dollar amount of damage and the contents of the merchandise stolen was estimated at about $1,400.
McGougin could not comment any further on the case due to the ongoing investigation.
However, he urges anyone who has information about the robbery to contact the Brewton Police Department at 867-3212.
