Most people in Escambia County are familiar with the name Norvelle Robertson Leigh if they know anything about the history of this county. He served as a judge during the building years of what became Brewton and was well known for his service to the Confedercy.
Recently I did a profile on Catherine and Donnie Fountain and in my conversation with Catherine, she told me about an autobiography written by Norvelle Robertson Leigh's grandfather, Norvelle Robertson. She had a copy and graciously allowed me to borrow it. It was most interesting in showing the soul-searching and Robertson's struggles with his religion. I thought some of his words would be interesting to the readers of this column.
This began the autobiography of Norvelle Robertson. I will continue with some more of this next week.
