The Escambia County Courthouse and Probate Judge Rachel Agerton played host to Secretary of State Nancy L. Worley, and representatives from southern Alabama counties, on Thursday, Nov. 10.
Worley chose Brewton as the site to hold a training and information session for voter registrars who work in this area.
The agenda of the meeting in Brewton called for dealing with the problems of hurricane evacuees and voter registration, voter registration applications, voter lists, updating the voter lists, updates to the voter registration system, administrative issues and election codes.
Voter registration will affect many hurricane evacuees who have been displaced and one of the matters before the group was how to get information to these people about getting involved with the Alabama voting system if they plan to stay in Alabama or absentee voting in their home state.
Another matter was the voter applications themselves and how to distribute them to college and universities and make sure there is no discrimination involved in dealing with the increase in Hispanic voters.
Worley said that the voter lists have been improved by mailing cards to all Alabama voters.
