Pollard McCall School was recently recognized by the Escambia County School Board as having received the At Honor Roll School Award.
In order to receive this award, schools must have met or exceeded adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two consecutive years. Pollard and Huxford Elementary were the two schools in Escambia County to receive this distinction. There were a total of 113 schools statewide that achieved the Honor Roll status. The results for the award were based on 2004-2005 test data.
In Alabama, schools and systems are evaluated based on student performance with Alabama content standards, attendance rates - elementary and middle schools - and drop out rates - high schools.
Depending on any combination of variables, a school or school system could have anywhere from three to 38 AYP goals.
According to No Child Left Behind regulations, if a school were to miss even one AYP within any of it's goals, the school is not considered to have made AYP.
