Gun season opens for deer hunters this Saturday, Nov. 19, and already, hunters are getting geared up for opening day.
Both Townson and Jerod Morris of Agerton Boots and Outdoors are conducting Big Buck contests this year.
In Townson's contest, hunters pay a $50 entry fee, and must be competing in the program at least 24 hours before entering a trophy buck.
The first place winner in the contest, which ends at the close of deer season, wins a Yamaha four-wheeler, and Cole and Son Taxidermists will mount the trophy buck free.
The contest offers a total of 10 prizes for the top 10 racks. Second prize is a gun of the hunter's choice valued at up to $1,000; third place is a Lifetime 10-foot shooting house; fourth place is a climber tree stand; fifth place is a stainless steel gas grill; sixth place is a gun valued at up to $300; sevent place is a gun valued at up to $200; eight place is a ladder stand; ninth place is a digital camera; and 10th place is a 35 mm game camera.
This is the first year Agerton has sponsored a contest. Morris said there is no entry fee. Entrants should bring a deer by to be scored during business hours, Monday through Friday.
The contest closes on Jan. 31, the last day of deer season. The grand prize is a three-day, all expenses paid hunting trip with Valley Creek Outdoors in December, 2006.
A special hunting section is included in the Wed., Nov. 16, edition of The Brewton Standard.
