Consumers will be putting down their forks and opening up their wallets as they hit the stores this Thanksgiving weekend. According to the results of the latest National Retail Federation (NRF) survey, up to 130 million consumers in the United States will go holiday shopping this weekend, and they'll spend 6 percent more on holiday purchases than they did last year.
Locally, government officials are reminding shoppers of the importance of shopping at home.
Jennings said that many local businesses are still trying to recover from the effects of last year's Hurricane Ivan.
East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark agreed.
Clark said East Brewton is trying to improve parks, streets and services.
