On Friday Dec. 2, 2005, Lillie Graham and Rogene Martin attended the yearly update training class for Project Share.
Held in Mobile at the Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross office, the training class was attended by representatives of the various agencies responsible for the administration of the need based assistance program.
The intention of Project SHARE (Service to Help Alabamians with Relief on Energy) is to help meet the energy needs of qualified, low-income elderly, or disabled individuals facing financial and/or medical challenges.
The program is funded primarily by monthly $1 donations from the customers of Alabama Power Company, Alabama Gas Corporation and other participating energy suppliers via their utility bills.
Locally, in addition the two providers listed above, Southern Pine Electric Cooperative, Southeast Alabama Gas and some participating dealers of Alabama propane Gas Association offer an opportunity for participation.
Graham is a volunteer in the local American Red Cross office. She has also worked with those who have experienced Single Family Fires and those who have experienced Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
For Project SHARE you must be either on disability or over the age of 62.
Contributions from the account holder, Project SHARE and possibly other assistance programs may be needed.
To schedule an appointment, call 867-3426 for assistance in the Brewton, East Brewton, and Flomaton areas.
Volunteers are needed for this program and for the phone interview process. Training is available.
