T.R. Miller Lady Tigers senior Joy McCorvey moved into sole possession of third place on the school's career scoring list Friday with her opening bucket in T.R. Miller's 52-40 win over Flomaton.
McCorvey entered the game deadlocked with Felicia Jackson, who racked up 1,911 points during her T.R. Miller career. Only Deanna Jackson (2,398) and Ashley Samuel (2,197) stand in front of her now.
McCorvey's 19 points Friday puts her at 1,930 for her career, 70 shy of the magical 2,000 career points plateau.
McCorvey and Jasmine Sanford are closing in on an interesting school “record.”
In the last game of the Spring Hill College Tournament against Mobile against Baker, McCorvey and Sanford reached 3,000 combined career points. That figure is now 3,094 after Friday's game against Flomaton. Sanford has 1,164 points to go with McCorvey's 1,930.
That brings up the question of which set of T.R. Miller teammates has the most combined points as active players.
Most would guess Deanna and Felicia Jackson since they combined for 4,309 points during their respective careers. However, Deanna Jackson scored 1,567 of those points after Felicia Jackson graduated in 1996. The Jackson sisters had 2,742 points at the conclusion of their final game together with Felicia at 1,911 and Deanna at 838.
The correct answer actually already involves McCorvey, but with a different teammate. Ashley Samuel and McCorvey had 3,237 points at the conclusion of their final game together in 2004. McCorvey had 1,040 points that that junction of her career to go along with Samuel's 2,197.
