People in the Brewton area are very familiar with George's Old Time Barbecue and have been enjoying the slabs of ribs, chicken and pulled pork that George Aust has been making for about 15 years.
Now, Aust has branched out and is marketing his barbecue sauce and seasoning rub and plans to add a marinade to the line of products under the company name of George's Old Time Barbecue Products, which is being bottled by Capstone PLM in Tuscaloosa.
He opened his first barbecue place in 1994. Things changed somewhat over the years and the cooking is done quite differently these days.
Aust came to Brewton from Geiger, Ala., in Sumter County in 1992, to be closer to his children. His daughter, Kathy McMillan, lives in Brewton and he has other children in Baldwin County.
Aust is planning a sales trip where he will demonstrate his products and perhaps get them placed in a grocery chain. If everything goes as he hopes, it won't be long until they will be sitting on many grocery shelves. He is almost a one-man sales and distributor, but with any luck and some barbecue eaters, that will soon change.
