Burke's Outlet among stores to open in April

It was confirmed this week that a Burke's Outlet will be moving into a vacant Brewton building, most often referred to as the &#8220old K-Mart” building.
Michael Dendy Mechanical Contractors, Inc., based out of Albertville, Ala., has been working on rebuilding the storefront, which is located at 1804 Douglas Ave. According to the building permit, which was filed with the city of Brewton on Jan. 19, the storefront carpentry work will cost approximately $40,000. The permit just states that &#8220retail stores” will be moving in.
However, a secretary at Dendy Mechanical Contractors Inc., she on Thursday that a Burke's Outlet will be opening soon. The target grand opening date is set for April of 2006, she said.
Asked whether the contractors would be working on other vacant stores that anchor the large building, she said she was unsure but was sure there would be more to come.
Unofficially, a Dollar Tree and Goody's is expected to open in the same area. Director of Community Development Pete Diurno said Tuesday evening that there is &#8220supposed” to be a Dollar Tree and Goody's moving into the area, but he wasn't even really sure if it was &#8220them.” Diurno said that he is typically &#8220the last person” to know what businesses move in.
According to its Web site, Burke's Outlet is a privately held company that is headquartered in Bradenton, Fla.  The corporation operates more than 130 retail stores in 11 states.  Most of the stores are located in busy strip shopping centers or central business districts.
Inside the store, customers can find brand name apparel and accessories for the entire family at up to 70 percent off department store prices.  In addition most stores carry shoes, home furnishings, gifts and toys. 
Burke's Outlet Stores are located in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, South Carolina and Texas.
