Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce officials confirmed this week that the Blueberry Festival is moving downtown to Burnt Corn Creek Park.
The downtown merchants group, which supported the move, also is coming under the umbrella of the chamber, so that the two groups can better work together to promote downtown.
Change is often difficult and usually is accompanied by growing pains. But the Chamber is already taking steps to ensure that the transition will be a smooth one. They've met with police to address traffic issues, and with food vendors to inform them of the changes. They've worked to return the popular antique car show to the event, and are open to other suggestions for improvement.
It often been said that the heart of a community is downtown. In our case, the downtown area is a crossroads of two major highways, and the basis on which many who pass through judge us. Anything we can do to help promote that area, draw business to it, or attract people and potential residents here, is a good thing.
We salute the leadership of the Chamber and the members of the merchants' group who have pledged to work together. Good things will come of their efforts, and our community will be all the better for their work.
