Habitat for Humanity will be kick off its “Building Blitz” this week when it features Tom Gerdy, winner of Habitat's National Volunteer of the Year award, at a Friday luncheon.
Gerdy, the owner of Gerdy Construction based out of Lynchburg, Va., volunteered to bring a group of people to Brewton later this spring to build two houses in one week. The volunteers will travel at their own expense.
That's great news for Brewton. Think about the generosity of people who are willing to give up their time, travel at their own expense, and spend their vacation time in work to build two local families new homes. One of the homes is made possible by a national hurricane grant, and will provide housing to a family whos home fell victim to Hurricane Ivan.
Since its founding in 1996, the Brewton Area Habitat for Humanity has built eight houses in the Brewton and East Brewton area. These homes give families a leg-up, the pride of ownership, and affordable housing.
