Mr. A. Stewart O'Bannon Jr., 75, died at his residence in Florence, Ala., after a brief illness. He was a native of Brewton and a native of Florence for many years. He served in the Untied States Army and graduated from the University of Alabama Law School in 1956. He practiced law in Florence for almost 60 years in Bradshaw and Barnett and his own law firm of O'Bannon and O'Bannon. He served as an Alabama Senator from 1966 to 1974 and served on the Alabama Board of Bar Commissioners, along with many other boards and commissions.
He is survived by his wife, Martha G. O'Bannon; his children, A. Stewart (Sally) O'Bannon III of Florence, Marcus William (Chris) O'Bannon of Carlsbad, Calif., and Alice Rebecca (Eric) Huber of Boulder, Colo.; his step-children Lizabeth Barnett (Dr. Jean-Paul) Nicol and Leah Barnett (Dr. Bob) Gehling, both of Auburn and Robert Lawrence Barnett of Birmingham; a sister, Emily (Fritz) Booth of Eatonton, Ga. and John Malcolm (Charlotte) O'Bannon of Brewton; nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services wil be held Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Florence with the Rev. Michael Carlisle officiating. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Park in Florence with Elkins Funeral Home directing.
