Have you ever looked for a certain address in the daytime and had trouble seeing the numbers? If you have, just imagine what it is like for emergency services to try to find that same address at 3 a.m. in the middle of a rainstorm.
That is what faces The Brewton Fire Department all the time. If a house is filling with smoke, but there is no flame, there may be nothing to guide the firemen to the correct address. The time looking for house numbers wastes precious time; time which could mean the difference in life and death for you, your family members or neighbors.
The Brewton Fire Department has recently launched a new program to seek a solution to this problem. The “Safety in Numbers” program's purpose is to make family, friends and neighbors aware of the necessity of posting correct E911 addresses in highly visible locations.
In order to make it a lot easier to identify houses, the fire department is selling reflective address markers. Not only will they sell the signs at a nominal price, they will also go to the homes and install them. The signs are installed on a nice wooden post that is sunk deep into the ground. They sell for $20, but if you already have a post, such as a wooden mailbox post, the sign alone is $15. Call the Brewton Fire Department at 867-7165 and order your sign today. Someone will come and install it as soon as possible.
