Mrs. Minnie Rentz Smith, 102, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at her residence on Escambia Avenue. She was a native of Camden and a long time resident of Brewton. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brewton, a graduate of Montevallo College and a former home economics teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Follin Smith and her sister, Carol R. Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Jim F. (Mildred) Smith Jr. of Montgomery, and Dr. Robert R. (Gail) Smith of Brewton; five grandchildren, Charlotte Farnham, Follin Smith, Leigh Faircloth, Kate LaVelle and Russell Smith; special caregivers, Etta Joohnson and Bettie Watson and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 7, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Brewton with the Rev. Robert C. Oates and the Rev. John Mathieu officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Active pallbearers were John Gerdy, Dr. Brent Faircloth, Raymond Faircloth, Don Farnham, James Farnham, and Joe LaVelle. Hororary pallbearers were Earle Wilson, Lee Otts, Jerry Kelley, Ray Sherer, Dr. Salem Saloom, Charles Harp, Hugh Caffey, Billy Howell, Robert Cumbie, Earnest Sellers and Andy Sharpe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, Miss. or the Endowment Fund First Presbyterian Church of Brewton.
