Formal signing of a contract for the new county jail will be held at a special meeting of the Board of Revenue. Black and Greene of Troy proposed to build the new jail for $97,000.
Members of the East Brewton Democratic Executive Committee have set a primary election for April 24. The second primary will be held on May 8, if necessary.
City Council members failed to agree to either renovate or rebuild the baseball park here. Liles Park has fallen into disrepair since “Class D” baseball folded in Brewton.
Pvt. Grover L. Jernigan, 18, and Specialist Third Class Billy Cole, 20, of Brewton, recently left Fort Campbell, Ky., for Germany as part of Operation Gyroscope, the Army's unit rotation plan.
Sealed bids on a new Caterpillar Motor Grader to be used in District Four have been asked for by the Board of Revenue.
