A Brewton woman was killed Friday night when her vehicle struck an oak tree along Sowell Road.
According to Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin, Ursula Kellogg, 38, was traveling along Sowell Road in her 1990 Dodge Shadow. At approximately 11:42 p.m., she went around a sharp curve, lost control of her vehicle and struck an oak tree near the intersection of Sowell Road and Rankin Street.
McGougin said the vehicle caught on fire, but an unidentified witness pulled Kellogg from the vehicle before she could receive any burns. McGougin said a rescue squad was called to the scene and Kellogg was transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital and pronounced dead around 4 a.m.
McGougin said it was undetermined whether drugs or alcohol was a factor, and tests would not be conducted.
