Facing two teams, Enterprise-Ozark and Alabama Southern - with a combined record of 8-41- figured to be a good place for the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks softball team to start the Alabama Community College Conference season.
That luxury did not help JDCC much, as it they dropped three of four games against those teams.
The Lady Warhawks (9-18 overall and 1-3 in the ACCC) kicked off the league season Wednesday with a twinbill split at Enterprise-Ozark.
Both games were decided in the final inning. After the Lady Boll Weevil rallied for a 2-1 win in the opener, it was JDCC's turn to rally for a 10-6 victory in eight innings in game two.
Although the Lady Warhawks were held to just three hits in the opener, they were still in position to win the game. JDCC got its lone run in the top of the third when Ashley Willoughby was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Makeyia Burt's RBI single.
The Lady Warhawks held that 1-0 lead until Enterprise-Ozark rallied with a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie and another in the seventh to win.
While the Lady Warhawks may have let a win slip away in the opener, Enterprise probably felt the same way in game two.

sixth to pull within 5-4. The Lady Warhawks tied the game in the top of the seventh inning when Kayla Galloway singled, went to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single by Lakyn Newton.
After JDCC used some late inning magic to tie the game, the Lady Warhawks strung together an improbable five-run top of the eighth inning to win it. All five runs came after two were out.
Katie Simmons was placed on second base to start the inning and she scored the go-ahead run on Burt's RBI double. Galloway drove home what proved to be the winning run with an RBI single. Another run came home when Nikki Madden's groundball was misplayed to make it 8-5.
Up next came Newton, who completed a perfect five-for-five game at the plate and six hits total for the day with a two-run homer that took the lead to 10-5.
Madden picked up her second decision of the day, this one in the win column.
JDCC dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Alabama Southern Thursday with a 7-3 loss in game one and a 12-4, five-inning setback in game two.
Newton continued her torrid hitting in game one with three more hits and an RBI to lead the Lady Warhawks. Madden posted a single and a triple. Jessica Cunningham and Willoughby each had a single and an RBI.
In game two, Galloway had a single and two RBIs to pace JDCC, while Simmons had a single and an RBI.
JDCC plays at Faulkner State Monday for a 1 p.m. twinbill.
