There have been many times over the years where the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks baseball team has won three consecutive games.
Seldom has JDCC won three games in one day. One of those rare occasions came Friday when the Warhawks notched three wins at Central Alabama.
JDCC's first victory was a 3-2 decision in 11 innings. That game was the completion of a suspended contest from March 14 when the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 after eight innings when darkness stopped play.
The Warhawks then won both ends of the scheduled doubleheader with an 11-9 triumph at the front end and a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.
The three wins snapped JDCC's five-game losing streak and brought the Warhawks back to the .500 mark for the season at 14-14.
JDCC pitching kept the Trojans hitless in addition to scoreless in the three extra frames that were played in the suspended game.
The Warhawks ended the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. Jordan Currid singled with one out and moved into scoring position on a throwing error on the play. David Washington followed with the game-winning single.
Fifteen hits helped offset six JDCC errors in the field in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Warhawks, who trailed 2-1 after one inning, seemingly had the game under control when they scored 10 of the next 11 runs to lead 11-3 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Four errors by the JDCC defense, three Central Alabama hits, plus a walk helped the Trojans string together six runs and trimmed the Warhawks' lead all the way down to 11-9.
Reliever Jonathan Milling entered the game at that point, and got the final three outs in that inning to preserve the lead. He then closed out Central Alabama with a scoreless seventh inning.
Bubba Mack sparked the Warhawks at the plate where he had a single, two doubles and five RBIs. It was also Mack who got the win on the mound, as he went the first two innings. David Washington, who scored four runs, and Steven Bingert, also had three hits each.
JDCC had to come from behind in the finale to get the sweep. Central Alabama had a 3-2 lead through three innings. Washington's RBI groundout scored Bingert in the fourth inning to tie the game, while Jake Bonds singled home Jesse Edwards in the top of the fifth to put the Warhawks up 4-3. Edwards drove in Andrew Sawyer in the seventh with a single for an insurance run that made it 5-3.
Starter Tim Horne went the first three and two-thirds innings for the win, while Adam Reed went the rest of the way for a save.
The Warhawks visit Alabama Southern Tuesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
