Tony Smith will be a relieved man when the Brewton Little League season kicks off Saturday.
Smith is in his fourth year as Brewton Little League president although his involvement goes beyond that.
Smith began his association with Brewton Little League two years after the YMCA Park Complex opened. While Smith was fortunate to inherit what was close to a brand new facility, he said there have been facility upgrades done since it opened.
Participation is another area where Smith has seen a big change.
Brewton began fielding an 11-year-old all-star team the last two seasons. The 2004 team shared the district title, while last year's team won the district title outright and advanced to the state tournament.
Smith said he has a good working relationship with East Brewton Little League president Joey Shell. The two leagues play interleague games as well as the City Series Tournament.
Brewton Little League has changed its selection process for all-star teams during Smith's tenure.
One item Smith would like to see the league pursue down the road is the development of more practice facilities.
The biggest thing Smith wants players to have is fun.
