Mrs. Katie Evelyn Steele Gatwood, 82, of Pineview Street, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, in a local hospital after an extended illness. She was a native and long time resident of Escambia County. She was a member of East Brewton Community of Christ Church, the Women's Auxiliary of American Legion, a retired seamstress from Judy Bond and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tafala Jernigan.
She is survived by a son, Terry Gatwood of Brewton; two daughters, Sharon (Tommy) Gatwood Jernigan of Brewton and Tammy (Danny) Gatwood White of Pace, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Seventy Wayne Ellis and the Rev. Earnie Calhoun officiating. Burial followed at Zion Hill Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
