TRM tennis girls bow out at sectional

While seven of T.R. Miller's nine entries were bounced in the opening round, two Lady Tigers advanced to the second round in Monday's Class 1A-3A
Tennis Sectional Meet held at Dothan.
Both of T.R. Miller's advancers came in singles play. Number three Kara Smith defeated her Providence Christian opponent in the opening round 6-3, 6-1. She was eliminated in the second round by Houston Academy 6-1, 6-2. Number six Magan Oliver came from behind to beat her Providence Christian opponent in the first round by an 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 decision. She was ousted in the second round when she lost to Houston Academy 6-0, 6-0.
In other singles results, number one Catherine Stokes fell to Houston Academy 6-3, 6-2. Number two Grace Miller also lost to Houston Academy by a 6-4, 6-4 score. Number four Michelle Lewis was defeated by her Houston Academy foe 6-1, 6-0. Number five Nikki Chambers was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Houston Academy.
Houston Academy also got the best of T.R. Miller's number one doubles entry, as Stokes and Miller lost 6-0, 6-4.
Bayside Academy eliminated the other two doubles entries. The number two team of Smith and Lewis was blanked 6-0, 6-0, while Reonte Powell and Chambers were knocked out by a 6-0, 6-1 decision in the number three position.
T.R. Miller finished the competition with four points. W.S. Neal was also scheduled to participate in the tournament, but opted not to play.
The boys sectional meet is Thursday at Point Clear.
