Brewton Babe Ruth kicks off season

Stellar pitching performances carried the Reds and Rangers to wins in Monday's opening day of the Brewton Babe Ruth season.
John Mathieu threw a three-hitter and struck out 15 to pace the Reds to a 10-1 win over the Athletics. Justin Payne threw a one-hit shutout and struck out 16 to pace the Rangers to a 4-0 triumph over the Indians.
Reds 10, Athletics 1
REDS: Jacob Cannon had a single and scored three runs. John Mathieu had three singles. Mabry Cook had a three-run homer. Caleb Palmer and Josh Palmer had a single. Ryland Dixon scored two runs. Christian Lodge had a double.
ATHLETICS: Dylan Smith and Sam Sharpe both had a single. Tyler Cross had a double.
Rangers 4, Indians 0
RANGERS: Justin Payne, Aaron Nelson, Blake Crosby, Williams Shell and Lane Cross had a single.
INDIANS: Tyson Godwin had a single.
