Darrell Blevins' former team got the upper hand on his current team for the third game in a row Thursday when the host Faulkner State Sun Chiefs doubled up the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks 8-4.
Blevins was an assistant coach at Faulkner State before he landed the head job at JDCC last summer.
The Sun Chiefs (18-10 in the Alabama Community College Conference and 30-20 overall) took advantage of five JDCC errors in the first six innings en route to an 8-0 lead.
JDCC (8-20 in the ACCC and 22-29 overall) plated all four of its runs in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI single by Jesse Edwards, an RBI double by Kenny McDonald and a two-run homer by Brandon Sapp.
Tim Horne was the losing Warhawks hurler, as he went the first five and one-third innings.
The Warhawks dropped the first two games of the series in Brewton Tuesday with a 7-4 setback in game one of a doubleheader and a 4-2 loss in game two. The game one loss assured JDCC it would finish the season with a losing record.
Faulkner State did most of its damage in game one in the second inning when it sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs against JDCC starting pitcher Bubba Mack.
The Warhawks pulled within 6-2 in the third inning on a two-run double by Brandon Sapp. JDCC reduced its deficit to just 6-4 in the fifth when David Washington lined an RBI single and David Hand walked with the bases loaded.
Faulkner State allowed just two additional baserunners the rest of the way and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
The Sun Chiefs managed just four hits in game two and only two off JDCC starter Ronnie Baker in six plus innings.
Two of the hits came in the opening inning when Faulkner State took a 2-0 lead. The Warhawks tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Mack was hit by a pitch and Nathan Hughes singled to set up an RBI single by Daniel Hodge and an RBI groundout by Jesse Edwards.
It stayed deadlocked until the top of the seventh inning when an errant pickoff throw to second base allowed the Sun Chiefs to plate the go-ahead and what proved to be winning run.
