An Atmore man was arrested last week following a felony grand jury indictment of cruelty to a dog in the first degree, Renee Jones, director of the Escambia County Humane Society said.
Marlon Thead of 64 Aplin Rd., Atmore, was arrested on May 1. According to Jones, on Jan. 8 a stray dog had wandered into Thead's yard. In the presence of numerous witnesses, Jones said Thead shot the stray dog three times with a shotgun.
Though she was severely injured and needed intensive vet care, the dog, named Annie Oakley, did survive and is currently being housed at the Humane Society of Escambia County shelter.
Jones said Thead's bond was set at $15,000 and he is facing up to 10 years in jail if convicted.
