The city of Brewton finally received a well-deserved designation last week as an Alabama Community of Excellence.
The designation makes Brewton one of just 13 communities in the state recognized as a Community of Excellence through a program designed to bolster small cities in the state.
Achieving the designation is long process involving assessment, leadership development and strategic planning and implementation.
Committees of community residents have examined leadership, quality of life, economic development, infrastructure and education.
As a community of excellence, Brewton will now receive recognition in state publications and on Alabama's official Web site; inclusion in the Alabama Development Office industry recruitment efforts; and promotion through the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel and the Alabama Department of Transportation.
To put it simply, the hard work Brewton leaders and residents put into getting the designation shows state leaders and others who can help us recruit industry and business that our community is willing to do what it takes to grow and develop.
The ACE designation also shows that Brewton not only has a vision for the future but a plan to put that vision into action.
But now that we've reached the ACE designation, we can't stop there. Growing the strategic plan and continuing to develop leaders and improve our quality of life are essential, not only to keeping the ACE label but also to ensuring that our future is bright.
