Mr. R.L. “Jack” Stewart, 88, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at a Santa Rosa County hospital. He was a native of Pineville, Fla., and a resident of Bratt since 1943. He was retired from Monsanto after 26 years, a member of Masonic Lodge 213, OES 188, Scottish Rite, American Legion and a veteran of World War II. He attended Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Foster Stewart; two brothers, George W. Stewart and Joe W. Stewart; a sister, Getherine Locke and three great grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Dianne) Stewart of Bratt, Fla.; four daughters, Millie (Walt) Dzurus of Longwood, Fla., Nita Smith, Myrna (Ray) Hodgen, both of Atmore, and Jacqulyn Ruth (David) Johnson of Bratt; four brothers, Iraia M. Stewart of Bay Minette, the Rev. Homer Stewart of Flomaton, T. Clinton Stewart of Milton, Fla. and the Rev. Rabon Stewart of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Earlene Kelly of Atmore and Polly Collins of Winter Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeal Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Johnson and the Rev. Kevin Flannagin officiating. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Greg Hodges, Walter D. Burns, Glenn Smith, Roger Smith, Sam Stewart and Jeff Kennedy.
