The story of a Brewton mother of two who was stabbed to death in Decatur seven years ago will be the centerpiece for a CBS news magazine show this month, according to her mother.
Karen Croft Tipton, 39, was a graduate of W.S. Neal High School. After marrying, she moved with her husband to Decatur. Her murder was discovered March 12, 1999, when her husband, psychiatrist David Tipton, returned home from work.
Daniel Wade Moore, 26 at the time, was indicted and charged with capital murder. Morgan County Circuit Judge Glenn Thompson had sentenced him to death, but Thompson later dismissed the capital murder charge because he said evidence had been withheld at the trial that would have aided the defense.
The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals ordered Moore held in the County Jail until the court decides if he should be retried. Moore is still being held in jail pending the court's decision.
CBS's news magazine show &#822048 hours” will be re-airing Tipton's story at 9 p.m. June 6.
