Dear Editor:
If you live outside the city limits, like I do, and you have had enough of the neighborhood yard dogs, let's do something about it. The county has no leash law concerning dogs.
After speaking with someone from the Humane Society, I was told that all the county had to do was to vote in the state ordinance and then something could be done about the neighborhood yard dogs.
Let me say now that I am not against hunters and hunting dogs.
This is about the people who have neighborhood yard dogs. The dogs consider the whole neighborhood their yard. I want to say thank you to the people who keep their dogs in a fenced yard or otherwise controlled.
What bothers me is when (owners) let their dogs run free. You can complain to the owners, and some will take care of the problem. Others could care less that you are upset. They know that because the county has no leash law that nothing will be done unless their dogs damage someone's property.
I ask you, is it fair to people who do not have dogs to make the effort to keep them off our property? Is it fair to us to buy supplies to fence in our property? Is it fair to us to have to watch where we step in our own yards?
If you feel like I do about this problem, please call your county commissioner and let them know how you feel. If enough people feel the same way, something can be done.
Thank you,
Scotty Neal
