Miles earns her doctorate

Marcia Redmon Miles, a native of Brewton and daughter of Dr. Marilyn Nicholson, graduated from Liberty University, Liberty Theological Seminary on May 13, with a doctor of ministry degree.
Miles made history in Liberty's 33rd commencement, where she became the first African-American female to receive the doctor of ministry degree.
A total of 125 graduates have received their doctorate degree from Liberty Seminary since 1990, five of which have been females.
Miles' dissertation is titled &#8220Father Presence Matters: A Case for Family.”
She has developed a program that offers a faith-based response to the epidemic of &#8220fatherlessness,” and believes that her program will make a viable contribution to her field in an effort to decrease the proportion of children who are being raised without a father's presence.
Dr. Marcia was ordained to the Gospel ministry in 1994. She travels nationally preaching and has done ministry work abroad in Israel and Trinidad.
As the founder of Painting the Portrait of a Woman Ministries, Inc. and the co-founder of Women Arising Spiritually, an international outreach in Trinidad, West Indies, Dr. Marcia's expertise continues to grow and strengthen.
Dr. Marcia currently works for Calvary International, an international missions organization located in Jacksonville, Fla., where she is the Director of Missionary Training.
