Change not necessarily bad

One of the most frequent questions I hear about our newspaper is this: Why do they move you around so much?
I think newspaper employees - particularly reporters, editors and publishers - move around at roughly the same rate as folks in many other professions, but perhaps not as much as many residents of smaller towns.
We go where the jobs are; we go where we can move up.
But sometimes life just gets in the way, too. Our former managing editor, Mary-Allison Lancaster, left last week because she found a new job near where her future husband works. We wish her well and will miss her smile around our office.
But rejoining our staff this week is a familiar face: Lisa Tindell, our longtime cooking columnist, is back in our office full-time as a reporter. She will initially be covering East Brewton and a variety of other news events, and she will be looking to develop some other new features for the newspaper.
If you have story ideas, please call Lisa at 867-4876 or send her an e-mail at lisa.tindell@brewtonstandard.com. Better yet, drop by to see her. I'm sure she would enjoy catching up with our readers.
While newspapers our size do often have a revolving door of reporters and other employees, I'm proud that The Standard has a strong team in place right now. Earlier this month we celebrated Marilyn Raines' 20th anniversary with the newspaper. Marilyn is, as one of her close friends noted, the backbone of The Brewton Standard, and we are lucky to have her.
And I'm also lucky to work with several other talented and hard-working folks whose make it their mission to bring you the news every day: dedicated sports editor Bruce Hixon, history-loving lifestyles reporter Lydia Grimes, circulation manager Rodica Angel, composing manager Susan Howard and our carriers who have possibly the hardest job of all.
It's true that we've had a number of publishers and editors and other staff through here in the past, and I'm sure, like any business, we will in the future.
But the team you have now is hard-working and dedicated to bringing you the best local newspaper every week.
