Brewton Mayor Ted Jennings made an announcement Tuesday that he's been in denial about for months.
Community development director Pete Diurno is retiring in August after 25 years of service to the city.
Diurno, whose responsibilities include code enforcement, planning and grant writing, among others, said he wears many hats.
Jennings said the city will advertise for the position soon, but he said Diurno plans to stay on for a few months in a part-time capacity to help with the transition.
The community development director position is appointed by the mayor.
