Imagine the surprise on the face of Bernice White when she came face to face with an alligator in her yard.
Bernice and her husband Rufus, live at 300 Stallworth St. in Alco near the pond on Forrest Hill Drive.
White was taking her garbage out one afternoon last week when she received the biggest shock of her life.
People fish around the pond quite often, and there have been cases of children playing in the pond.
White was very concerned about the welfare of anyone playing in the area.
The alligator was a little less than 5 feet long and had a wound on his snout from what looked like a gunshot.
The Escambia County Humane Society took the animal but was forced to destroy it.
