Allied Waste will no longer offer recycling pickup to Brewton customers.
The Brewton City Council approved the contract change in its regular meeting Tuesday.
Allied Waste, which is based in Mobile, said only 17 percent of Brewton residents participate in the program, with a pickup of only 1.5 tons of recyclable material. But 2,018 households pay for the service.
Allied Waste will discontinue pickup of recyclables after July 31.
Customers will see a $2.25 reduction in their monthly bills as a result of the change.
