Brewton Elementary School music specialist Anthony Turk recently completed a two-week Orff training course at Samford University in Birmingham.
The course ran from June 5th through June 16th. Shirley W. McRae and Rhonda Tucker were the clinicians for the workshop.
Through singing, playing Orff and classroom instruments, and movement, participants learned how to logically and sequentially teach various musical concepts to children at various levels of cognitive and musical development. Area music specialists were invited for special interest sessions to discuss opportunities for utilizing creative activities in the music classroom.
Levels Two and Three will be offered concurrently next summer on the campus of Samford University. Shirley McRae is Professor Emerita at The Rudy E. Scheidt School of Music, University of Memphis, Memphis Tennessee. Rhonda Tucker is the music specialist at the Shades Cahaba Elementary School in Mountain Brook.
Turk has begun his seventh year of teaching this year, and his fifth year with the Brewton City School System.
