It would be too extreme to say the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers volleyball team is back at square one.
Coach Sharon Peacock has experienced square one. She has been around since the program was born when there was no foundation, no feeder program and no experience.
Those items are all in place now and played a role in T.R. Miller's most successful season last year when the Lady Tigers set a school record for wins (21), won the inaugural Escambia County Tournament, won their first ever Area Tournament and notched their first ever regional tournament victory.
While the departure of six members from last year's team has left T.R. Miller short on varsity experience for this season, it is not short on overall playing experience.
T.R. Miller has just one senior, 5-10 middle hitter Shandreka Foster. Foster is the only carryover from last season's starting lineup.
The only other player with significant varsity experience is 5-3 junior outside hitter Leslie Nalty.
The rest of the starting lineup figures to come from last season's junior varsity squad.
Michal Hubbard, a 5-10 junior, is expected to complement Foster at the other middle hitter spot.
The other outside spot will probably be whoever is not setting on a particular play, which is 5-7 sophomore Morgan Hubbard or 5-5 junior Courtney Scott.
Rachel Bostic and Brittany Watson, both 5-10 juniors, also figure to be key contributors especially up front.
Peacock admits she does not have a lot of lineup options.
T.R. Miller moves into Class 4A Area 2 this season along with Andalusia and former 3A Area roommate W.S. Neal.
