Go support local school football teams
Football season is about to get under way in Brewton and East Brewton, and local high school students have been pouring their blood, sweat and tears into practice for weeks now.
We all know how important football season is around this community.
Local residents proudly wear their school colors and keep up with players' stats, and the stands are packed on Friday nights as the teams take the field.
Not only have football players been working hard out on the field, area bands and cheerleaders have been practicing as well.
We can be proud of their hard work - no matter what happens on the field.
Of course we always want our teams to win, but first and foremost we want our students simply to have a good time.
There is so much they can learn from the experience playing sports or participating in an activity such as cheerleading or band - and it really isn't all about winning.
We've had local teams to win state championships; we've watched players go on to college and pro careers.
But we've also had students who played high school sports - and simply stayed in the community that supported them to make a living and raise a family.
High school football games give members of our community an opportunity to come together and cheer for a common goal.
So let's all support them on Friday nights this fall - they are representing our community.
