Mrs. Lillian Ruth Powell, 85, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006. She was a graduate of Shady Grove and Southern Normal. She was an educator with the Escambia (Ala.) County Board of Education. She had been a member of Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church, was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Powell.
She is survived by two adopted children, Sarah Pearl (Solomon) Kyser and Willie Marvin &#8220Billy” Ivey; granddaughters, Stephanie, Anita and Shavanda; grandsons, Michael and Willie Jr.; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (John) Lovelace and Louise McNabb; one brother, Phillip Floyd Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. at Second Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. H.B. King officiating. Burial followed at Shady Grove Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
